Save the Co-Op Garage Melton Mowbray

“We, the undersigned, oppose the proposed closure of the Midlands Co-op Garage, Kings Road, Melton Mowbray, which provides excellent, trustworthy, reliable, well respected and cost-effective motor servicing, repairs, maintenance and MOT service for the community of Melton and surrounding area.

We strongly urge the Midlands Co-operative to reconsider its decision and not close this facility without giving sufficient time for the staff to make arrangements to continue trading.”

Background

The Co-op garage in Kings Road, Melton Mowbray is set to shut on Friday 12th March 2010 after the Midlands Co-Operative decided it could not keep it open, as reported in the Melton Times on Thursday 4th March 2010 (http://www.meltontimes.co.uk/news/Coop-shuts-popular-garage.6121503.jp).

The staff of the garage would like to continue trading on the site but if the Midlands Co-Operative close the site rather than transferring ownership as a going concern, they may not be able to obtain the appropriate VOSA approval to continue.

Many people I have spoken to are extremely disappointed by this very late breaking news and this petition is for people to show their support for the staff of the garage and encourage the Midlands Co-Operative to make all attempts to allow the garage to continue trading. I have been a loyal customer of the site since I moved to Melton 9 years ago and would be very sad to see the closure of the most reliable and trustworthy garage I have ever had the pleasure of using.
